True North Success: Navigating Life & Business is a powerful memoir and guide about resilience, courage, purpose, and refusing to let other people define your limits.
At two years old, Lynn Drake survived a devastating accident that severed two fingers on her right hand. Although the physical wounds healed against the odds, the resulting neurological trauma left her struggling with a learning condition similar to dyslexia. Early educators doubted her potential, and one fifth grade teacher’s cruel words could have shaped the rest of her life.
They were wrong.
Through determination, mentors, faith, and a lifelong belief in taking action, Lynn went on to read at a post graduate level at 12 years old, earn a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in accounting, and begin her real estate career in industrial real estate in 1985, one of the most challenging and traditionally male dominated areas of the industry.
Your challenges do not define your destination. They may be the very thing that leads you to your greatest strength.
Lynn later earned CoreNet Global’s Master of Corporate Real Estate, or MCR, designation, a specialized certification developed for professionals responsible for managing real estate assets on behalf of their employers. This advanced training strengthened her ability to guide companies through complex real estate decisions involving strategy, operations, cost, risk, and long term business planning.
To push past fear and develop her voice, Lynn turned to extreme sports and bold personal challenges, including mountain climbing, firewalking, bungee jumping, and other adventures that forced her to trust herself, speak up, and find her strength in both her personal and business life.
Over the course of her career, Lynn founded Compass Commercial, managed more than 1,700 industrial, office, and retail transactions, and became known for guiding business owners through complex commercial real estate decisions with confidence and clarity.
But True North Success is not just a story about business success. Lynn shares the raw truth of her journey through personal valleys, professional challenges, infertility, high-stakes decisions, and defining moments that shaped her as a mother, leader, business owner, and mentor.
The ultimate turning point came in the quiet of a desert oasis. Watching a single handful of water create ripples across a small lake, Lynn discovered her deeper purpose: to use her hard-won strength to create ripples of positive change for others.
With practical “Lessons Learned” throughout the book, True North Success serves as a compass for anyone navigating adversity, building confidence, pursuing meaningful goals, or searching for their own true north.
Your challenges do not define your destination. They may be the very thing that leads you to your greatest strength.
